I had only horrible experiences with…

I had only horrible experiences with this company. Each order is late. Customer service is substandard. Once I waited a month for delivery of sparkling wines that were a gift to my family. Missed the occasion. This time I placed an order with Monday delivery. On Monday I checked the status of my order and foound out it was delayed. Called wine.com and spoked to manager as timely delivery was important for me. I was running tasting for professionals two days later. I was promised delivery and change of address as I knew I was not going to be home the following day. The Manager (?) did not follow up on address change and wines were delivered to an empty home. When I spoke to him an hour after attempted delivery he said that he was sorry but he can do nothing for me. I am left without wines and a sorry. I don’t recommend anyone working with this company!!!

Abysmal Gift Card System

My gripes with this merchant revolve around their horrid gift card system. On multiple occasions, e-gift cards purchased from them have been frozen and/or canceled, and typically, there is no notification of this for the customer. As a result, you only figure it out when you try to use a gift card.
Dealing with the support people takes forever, as they are typically super confused about their own gift card system. God forbid you actually send one of these gift cards to someone else.
To Wine.com: Either fix your disaster of a gift card system, or just stop selling them altogether.

I received excellent service

I read these reviews after I purchased two cases of wine from wine.com. I used the virtual chat and got excellent help. I'm a bit of a wine dummy and really only use wines mostly for cooking. I needed both whites and reds for my cooking. I feel like I received a free lesson in world wines. My credit card was charged exactly what I submitted in the order. Their selection is vast. They have both expensive wines and wines not so expensive. I'm surprised to read the negative reviews. I'm usually very picky about service but I received excellent service my first time ordering. I will come back.

It seems convenient at first

It seems convenient at first, but the wines I want are often "out of stock". If you live in a big city, they are also more expensive than many large stores, e.g. Total Wine and Leukens Liquors. I paid the $52. for free shipping for a year, but this is countered by their higher prices. I canceled at the end of my year 4 days in advance, and they charged me anyway. Then you are faced with contacting them to fix the situation. If you send a lot of wine gifts by mail, they may be worth it, otherwise, I do not recommend.

Order canceled and shut down by ASSUMPTION of fraud. No call received.

I was a large customer under one email address and, for accounting purposes, needed to order under a new account. I opened the account at wine.com and placed an order for 2 cases of Cava. The order was a rush due to limited time i had before an event. Instead of calling me to confirm the order they canceled it and shut my account down assuming fraud. Further after multiple calls I found their customer service to be EXTREMELY poor. Moreover I finally received an email explaining they suspect fraud and they will not process any of my orders in the future. In my time i have purchased over 50 cases from them over many years. Big screw up on their part and why? Because they simply didnt take the time to call a customer and just canceled. Nice move wine.com. I assume you are aware you are in a competitive market? (hint, I also OWN a winery!) Next time consider what customers you decide to treat poorly with assumptions and failed fraud algorithms. Another site took my order and fulfilled it fine. I have taken my business elsewhere and will never order from them again.

Don't use! I'd give 0 stars if I could

I was charged a fraudulent order from wine.com for $250 and now I can't get a hold of anyone to get reimbursed.

This company is extremely inconsistent

This company is extremely inconsistent. They also rely on FedEx for deliveries. So basically you have two highly unreliable companies working together. If you are lucky you get your wines on time. If you have normal luck, you end up getting it late.
My FedEx guy last time "attempted deliveries" and then on the third attempt after I called their customer service, left it outside of my apartment building. With words wine on it and a box, literally accessible to anyone walking by.
Wine.com is also incompetence defined. Perhaps they are drinking the wines while they are selling them. Nobody takes responsibility. They "report" it or something but things aren't getting better.
I'm waiting on an order that once again wasn't delivered. Now my wines will sit in a cold warehouse for another full day before hopefully FedEx is competent enough to deliver the wine to my apartment door. If not, I guess it'll sit for another day then the guy will leave it on the street again.

Huge rip off- run! don't walk away from this site

I signed up for a virtual wine tasting & received the 3 bottles & did the tasting. One was drinkable, the others are for cooking....My bad, it was a tasting after all.
So now a month later I'm excited to place my 1st order and they mysteriously can't find me or my account number. So I got ripped off the $50 for my free shipping for a year in advance....PATHETIC
Bad Karma to you forever,
losers!
PS I even sent an image of my bank statement with the payment in black and white and they still couldn't make it work. :-(
Ok... after getting my bank involved, they miraculously found me & my payment.... They pulled the Covid card ....customer service.....holidays....blah blah blah so now I don’t really know if I wanna do business with them or not, I have not attempted to place another order....

If I could give zero or negative stars…

If I could give zero or negative stars for Wine.com I would. Like another customer, I am only sorry that I did not read the reviews before ordering. I purchased a case of very expensive wine one of which was a Christmas gift. The price difference between the wine I ordered and the wine I received was $200+ dollars. They replaced the wine with a much cheaper wine and did not say a word! No email, no call, no nothing. It is FRAUD. There is not any other word for it. I called customer service and was only able to speak to someone after pressing 1 to place and order. The woman I spoke too seemed to be working from home. Not a big deal with COVID going on but she had children crying in the background throughout the call and therefore had trouble writing down the name of the wine I did receive which was the wrong one. She said she’d “look into it”. How can we take this company to task for what they are doing? They need to be stopped.

Overall, a good site for on-line wine retail

I have been ordering wine from wine.com for about 5 years now, maybe 6 years. For part of those years, I was a Stewardship member (free shipping for an annual fee). I have ordered Bordeaux futures as well as wines they have in stock. This is a summary of my experience with the company.

Website: 5/5 stars. Their website is by far the best website for finding information about wine. They have a tremendous number of wines in stock, and they contain not only information about that particular wine and vintage, but also information about the vigneron and other wines produced by that vigneron. They post the reviews of all the major wine reviewers, and you can see what the ratings were for that particular wine during other vintages - even if they do not have that wine in stock. Their layout is super helpful and pleasant. Their filtering options are above average. I disagree with some of their categorization of wines (e.g., some wines should be Rhone rather than Languedoc, etc.), but that is a rare issue.

Pricing: 3/5. Generally, wine.com has higher prices that elsewhere. Bordeaux futures are comparable. If I use a 10% case discount and utilize my Stewardship membership, the price is roughly equivalent to what I would pay locally with the high Chicago taxes. However, this is when I buy a case of wine. I don't find buying less than a case economical unless there is a 10% > $200 coupon or something with the free shipping membership. There's probably an overhead and a desire to make a profit here, but that's OK. This is just an assessment of their competitiveness in terms of pricing.

Phone App: 4/5. The App (at least the android app) is almost as functional as the website. It is a little buggy at times, but it has the basic functionality that the website has with the addition of using a barcode scanner and camera to search for wines. When I am in local stores in Chicago, I typically use the wine.com app to look at prices and ratings.

Customer Service: 3/5. I've had a mediocre-to-above-average experience with customer service reps. The wait can frequently be long, and if you're not looking for recommendations and want to ask questions about your order, shipment, etc., sometimes they can be helpful; sometimes they are not. This can be frustrating, but I don't frequently have to involve customer service.

Shipping 5/5. I've had about 30 cases of wine delivered over the years. One case was substandardly packaged (they forgot the top casing that stabilizes the wine bottles upright). I informed them about it, and since none of the bottles were damaged (ha! California cabs and their thick glass bottles), there was really no recourse. The first time I ordered, I had them send it to my home. This was a major disaster since my wife and I weren't home the three times FedEx attempted to deliver, and I had to pick it up at a regional FedEx store. I don't consider this to be a wine.com problem, rather a FedEx problem. If people are complaining about the delivery, they should complain to FedEx -- the company actually delivering the product. Certainly neither FedEx nor wine.com can be blamed for the fact that an adult >21 is not home to sign the receipt. Certainly wine.com cannot be blamed for a FedEx delivery man who just drops the case on the porch without a signature. Since that first occasion, I had FedEx deliver to Walgreens, and I just pick it up at my convenience. Yes, it would have been nicer to have it delivered to my home, but sometimes we're just not home when FedEx comes by. Now, since I am a member at a wine storage facility, the deliveries are managed by them and the wine goes into my storage locker. I've checked all the boxes -- never damaged and always complete.

COVID Issues: Come on, folks. During a global pandemic when people are sick or dying and when all these government regulations are being enforced and shipments of all kinds are being delayed, you're going to give wine.com a 1/5 star rating because it took a few extra days to deliver your wine? You're going to complain that it took a couple of weeks to process the order and ship it? Ok, I get that it's an annoyance, but we're not talking about the delivery of flour, toilet paper and water -- those, you know, essential things in life. If you need your bottle of wine now for a special occasion and it is time sensitive, go to a store and pick it up or something equivalent. If wine.com is the only place that has that very special one bottle, plan ahead.

I order from a few other on-line retailers, and I've never really had any issues with any of them. The longest one took was about 6 weeks, but I was ordering from a mom & pop wine shop in Connecticut. I think I would be scared to order from wine.com if I had read all these reviews first, but that's not the way it happened. They have issues, but their selection is excellent. Their pricing is OK. Their customer service is so-so. But, they make ordering wine exceptionally easy -- especially in a state that is a national ...

Since 2020 they are not good anymore

Used to be a great company and my go to for wines but since 2020 the shipments are always late or don't arrive at all, they don't send email updates and they've become incredibly unreliable. When talking to their awful customer service I ask when my order will be shipped and they say they do not know. Nuts!

If you try online chat, you will be on hold for over an hour.

Awful. No one responds to emails. When you attempt to chat, you are on hold forever. Once I was finally connected, the chat person left the chat right in the middle before my issue was resolved.

It seemed cheaper bc I didn't have to pay for a subscription. But just remember things that seem too good to be true usually are. They double charged me, and customer service was terrible. Beware beware beware
